Precious Gem Therapies
Precious Gem Therapies
Can precious and semi-precious stones heal the body and mind? Gem therapy is based on the belief that gems have specific vibrations that can change a person's mental and physical outlook if place within his/her aura. Consisting of nine colors (violet, indigo, blue, green, yellow, orange, red, infrared, and ultra violet), the aura can be out of balance if there is any excess or deficiency, which will lead to illness or emotional distress.
Healing with gemstones is a century old practice traced to ancient Greeks and Egyptians. Believing that certain imbalances could be fixed by wearing gems close to the skin, Vedas in India widely used gemstones. Even oral medications were made of gemstones. Thought to have influence on nature, royalty often wore certain gems in their crowns and jewelry hoping to increase power, wealth, and popularity.
The modern belief of gem therapy ascertains that gems emit specific wavelengths into the body. These wavelengths then convert aura rays into the chemicals that the body uses to improve health. Does this really work?
Critics believe gem therapy is really the power of suggestion, not real healing. This placebo affect makes the person feel better because he/she believes the treatment is working. Other critics point out that gem therapy has any scientific basis. These critics note that even if gems did have the healing properties, the small pieces worn in jewelry would probably not have sufficient strength to do any healing. Even though some crystals and gemstones do produce an electrical charge if they're compressed, critics say that they do not have the capability to harness and direct energy.
Believers disagree. Gem therapy, according to those who use it, creates an improved sense of well-being. They argue that crystals and gems do emit vibrations and channel good energy to protect against bad energy. Increasing self-expression, creativity, and meditation, gem therapy practitioners suggests that it improves the immune system in a much healthier and natural approach than prescription drugs.
Books are available for beginners in gem therapy to learn how different gems work differently from person to person. The easiest form of gem therapy is wearing high quality gems of natural origin around the neck. Soaking the gem in alcohol and storing it for a week is said to make the gem work better. Synthetic gems, having be heated and changed during processing, do not work as well as natural gems. The following list explains some of the uses for different gems.
- Ruby-opens the heart to overcoming fear.
- Sapphire-provides mental clarity.
- Amber-relieves depression and emotional stress.
- Diamonds-increases personal clarity.
- Jade-increases relaxation and calmness, reducing tension.
- Coral-strengthens the emotions.
- Black Onyx-helps to change bad habits such as overeating or smoking.
- Emerald-improves physical and emotional well-being.
- Aquamarine-helps to deal with difficult situations.
- Opal-broadens one's perspective.
- Rose Quartz-balances and smoothes emotions
