Golfers Jamaica
A Jamaican holiday might bring out the golfer in you. With its many remarkable golf courses and a natural climate just suitable for the game, Jamaica is becoming a preferred destination for golfers. Though quite a few golf courses are private, most of them grant day passes to holiday makers.
With its classic lines and a setup that will test your golfing skills, Half Moon Golf Club is well known to tournament players worldwide. Measuring over 7,000 yards in length and posing an extra challenge due to its windy location, this course will ensure a game that is not only exciting, but also physically challenging.
The renowned Ritz Carlton Rose Hall Resort of Montego Bay has recently complemented its set of attractions with an elegant and fascinating golf course. The White Witch Course, as it was named - after the infamous Annee Palmer, a nineteenth-century sugar plantation owner whose ghost is said to be haunting the area - is also notably challenging, so that every golfer will be tempted to try it. The course was built according to the outstanding design of Robert Von Hagge, Rick Baril, and Mike Smelek. At sixteen of the holes, you can admire an amazing oceanic panorama, while the rest of the course winds through strong hills where the cool ocean breeze can be felt.
Three Palms Ocean Course will make it difficult for you to win a game if it's your first time there: you won't be able to take your eyes off the beautiful scenery that surrounds it. You will play along the ruins of an eighteenth-century aqueduct and near the family graveyard of Elizabeth Barrett Browning. Besides such historic landmarks, the natural setting is fabulous: the ocean, canyons, waterfalls, gorges. The golf competition will be doubled by an inner one, between the golfer and the tourist inside you.
Golfers from all over the world will often gather for a game at the Tryall Golf Course in Montego Bay, the place where the Johnny Walker World Championship is held. Spanning a length of 6,772 yards, this course will take you through a beautiful scenery, from the forest to the ocean. The panorama you will get of the mountains and the ocean is impressive, and historic remnants such as an eighteen-century water wheel add to the aesthetic impression.
These are not the only golf courses in Jamaica. Other places are also worth mentioning, such as the old Manchester Club, where people can also play tennis and billiards, the Negril Hills Golf Club with its craggy ground, or the upscale Breezes Golf and Beach Resort.
Whether you view golf as a way of life or just a leisure activity, you shouldn't miss the opportunity to try Jamaica's fine courses. Don't forget to bring your lucky club!
