Explore with a National Parks Theme Vacation

A national parks vacation can be a very fun way to spend vacation.  There are national parks all over the country.  If you plan good you may even be able to hit a few different parks on your trip.  This type of trip is best as a road trip so you can haul all your camping and hiking gear, plus driving allows you to stop off along the way to take in various attractions around the park.  The following explains a little about some of the national parks this country has to offer.

Acadia National Park is located in Maine. It was established in 1919 by society families, including the Rockefellers.  They donated land to create a public park for the less fortunate..  Acadia is a patch of wilderness amongst civilization.  It features tidal pools, bogs and forests.  Two great attractions are the Cadillac Mountain at 1,530 feet which is the Atlantic coasts highest point and the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse is the most photographed lighthouse in Maine.

Great Smoky Mountains National Park, established in 1934, is located in Tennessee and North Carolina.  It is the most visited park in the nation.  The Appalachian mountains and Great Smoky Mountains are great attractions to the park.  This park is also filled with as many as 600 black bears.  The park also features an array of wild mushrooms with many types that can be eaten.

Olympic National Park was established in 1938 and is located in Seattle, Washington.  It features three rainforests, beaches and three mineral pools at Sol Duc Hot Springs.  Mount Olympus is also located at Olympic National Park. 

Yellowstone National Park was established in 1872 and is considered one of the most beautiful places in the country.  With tall redwoods, springs and geysers, Yellowstone offers a scenery that can not be compared.  It is America's first national park and as such it is the largest national park in the country.  Attractions include, Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs.
